Saxon Festival 2022 by Wareham Mayor

Saxon Festival August 2022

Historically Wareham had Romans followed by Saxons and then Vikings. Today was to celebrate the Saxon times. No better proof of Saxon involvement here is our explicit Earthen Walls.

The Cryer introduced myself as Mayor and Rev Simon Everett and we gave our introductions to this unusual and exciting event at the Rugby Club.

Such unusual activity was the Axe throwing which is not as easy as it seems.

Unfortunately the presence of the Fire Brigade indicated that the Fire Eating and anything linked to flames was off.

Many Saxon economic cooking hints and tips were noted for the uncertain times ahead.

History was evident everywhere. History was a case of living school books added to the input from the experts including our own Ben Buxton.

Superb refreshments abounded to suit all tastes.

As always our own Wareham Town Band kept the party going throughout.

My personal favourites was the singing from the Whalers to that great family favourite of the Bovington Military Wives Choir who just seem so perfect – thank you all.

What a great bumper family day out you fab organisers! Let’s have more of this please!
