Learn a beautiful sustainably farmed craft!
The raffia bag making workshop at Careys Secret Garden is the perfect opportunity to not only learn how to make beautiful raffia bags but to also discover what a flexible (and sustainably farmed) craft material raffia is. The key skills in working with raffia are plaiting and sewing and there is no previous experience needed, therefore complete beginners are very welcome. The workshop is run over two days to make sure that the workshop is relaxed and enjoyable. At the workshop, you will have a choice of bag styles to choose from and student worksheets include instructions on each style. You will also learn about the origin, sustainability, durability and flexibility of raffia as well as how it can be dyed and other items that raffia can be used to make.
This workshop runs from 10am – 3pm, the second session on Friday 2nd December is included in the ticket price, and it will run at the same time.
The workshop is run by Claire Richards of allthingsraffia who has been working with raffia since the early 90s, even still wearing a hat that she made in 1993….to be honest, the hat has probably worn better than she has….. This workshop is the perfect opportunity to learn a new craft, relax with friends and still have time to make raffia gifts as Christmas presents…
