Over 65 films showcasing the very best of cinema
2019, Director: Peter Cattaneo
Starring: Kristin Scott Thomas, Sharon Horgan, Emma Lowndes
With their partners away serving in Afganistan, a group of women on the home front form a choir and quickly find themselves at the centre of a media sensation and global movement. Singing turns out to be good medicine for everyone. But turning a bunch of amateurs into a reputable choir that can sing at a big national event is quite a challenge, especially when the two leaders are quite different in style. Kate (Kristin Scott Thomas), is the wife of a commanding officer; she wants to create a traditional choir. Lisa (Sharon Horgan), likes more modern music that speaks to the women’s feelings. She comes up with the idea of writing a song incorporating lines from the wives’ letters to their husbands.
Purbeck Film Festival: Supported by the BFI and its South West Regional Hub the Purbeck Film Festival aims to provide a rich variety of cinematic experiences across a rural area which does not have easy access to foreign language, independent and classic films.
