A cop from the provinces moves to Paris to join the Anti-Crime Brigade of Monfermeil, discovering an underworld where the tensions between different groups mark the rhythm.
This highly successful film was France’s shortlisted Oscar nomination for 2020. It is a gripping experience, tense and upsetting, showing how seemingly small events can balloon into something out of control. The story is haunted by the memory of the three week French riots of 2005 involving North African immigrant populations.
It is a normal day and three policemen, two experienced and one not, take on these small events.
What is at stake is issues of citizenship, which really means issues of belonging. Who “gets to” belong? Who “gets to” think of themselves as “French”?

Purbeck Film Festival: Supported by the BFI and its South West Regional Hub the Purbeck Film Festival aims to provide a rich variety of cinematic experiences across a rural area which does not have easy access to foreign language, independent and classic films.
