Living Willows Workshop Afternoon

Create your very own living willow

Come and spend the morning under expert tuition to create your very own living willow at Careys Secret Garden. Find out about how willow is grown, harvested, and processed. As well as then planting your very own living willow pot to take home and enjoy in your own garden. Your living willow will continue to grow for years and with a little maintenance it will retain its shape and provide you with lots of fresh bright red withies each year, you can use these to make your own sustainable Xmas decorations.

Event leader Yanina Stockings has been inspired by nature, after growing up in the Highlands of Scotland surrounded by the ancient Caledonian pine forests.  With a BSc Hons in conservation, sustainability is important and all of her willow and rush is sourced here in the south of England, and where possible Yanina harvests her own locally. She trained as a teacher at Southampton University in 2009 and now runs many varied willow workshops making this ancient rural craft accessible to everyone.

A hot drink will be provided – but why don’t you stay after the course to enjoy the gardens and have a delicious light lunch, cake, or ice cream from the Secret Salt Pig.
