Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door

‘World famous Jurassic Coast Landmark’

Lulworth is world famous for its unique geology and landforms. A  UNESCO World Heritage Site where you can visit Lulworth Cove, Durdle Door, Lulworth Crumple and Stair Hole and Man O’War Beach.

Lulworth Cove

Lulworth is the perfect place to visit to enjoy panoramic views and beautiful natural coastal landscapes.  With activities from rock-pooling and watersports, to walking, coasteering or just relaxing with an ice cream, this is a not to be missed destination, just a short drive from Wareham.

Lulworth is considered one of the best places in the world to study geology. Here you can see some amazing landforms and five types of rock. Lulworth cove was formed by the combined forces of the sea and a river swollen by melting ice at the end of the last Ice Age.

Durdle Door

One of Dorset’s most photographed and iconic landmark and probably the most famous stone arch anywhere in the world! Durldle Door was created when the sea pierced through the Portland limestone around 10,000 years ago, eventually geologists predict the arch will collapse and leave a sea stack . At some angles the arch looks like a dinosaur or dragon drinking water!

You can walk to Durdle Door from the Lulworth Visitor Centre which takes approx 30 minutes or you can drive to the car park at the top of the cliff and then it’s a steep 15 minute walk across the cliffs.

Lulworth Visitor Centre

Probably the best place to start any visit to Lulworth. With  helpful visitor information and guides to the local area.Free entry it is open every day (apart from Christmas Day!) from 10am-5pm (4pm in winter). The centre is fully accessible by wheelchair.
Displays in the Visitor Centre tell the story of Lulworth from 150 million years ago, as the first rocks formed, to the landscape and village you see today. There are also animations and short films which explain the World Heritage Site.

Coastal Paths and Walks

Lulworth has a comprehensive network of Public Rights of Way, Permissive footpaths and Open Access areas that allow you to explore the coast and Estate. Walking is very popular and there are ample parking facilities. All Walk Guides and maps are available from Lulworth Visitor Centre Reception.
